Our fly fishing club is indebted to the acclaimed photographer Val Atkinson for allowing us to use the stunning images shown below in the slideshow.  Val is the master of capturing with a camera the tranquility and sublime beauty of the rivers in northern California that our members count among their favorite places to fly fish.

You can view the complete set of photos in this series, called "5 Rivers in Northern California," and many of Val's other images, by going to his website: Val Atkinson's Website   Many of his images are available for purchase.

DAN JOHNSON

HOT CREEK -- FLY FISHING and The Ongoing Battle to Protect It

Dan Johnson 1

Hot Creek, one of the most unique fisheries in California is cherished by anglers across the state. Unfortunately, a Canadian gold mining company has been working to mine 1/3 of a mile from its banks for nearly a decade. While defeated temporarily in 2024, the proposal to mine at Hot Creek is back.

Dan will talk about the history of the fight against the Long Valley Mine, explain what groups and community members are doing to fight back, and provide opportunities for club members to get engaged in this important issue.

Wednesday Evening,  July 8th

West Valley Branch Library - 1243 San Tomas Aquino Rd., San Jose

Doors open at 6:00pm
