Conservation Mission and Goals
Flycasters has a strong active Conservation effort as it relates to Fly Fishing. Flycasters has a committee of volunteer club members who are involved in raising funds for conservation and participating in conservation activities.
To understand better what the Conservation Committee does, we turn to the definition of
Conservation from the Merriam-Webster dictionary: A careful preservation and protection of something; especially: planned management of a natural resource to prevent exploitation, destruction or neglect.
As a Fly Fishing club, the Flycasters Conservation Committee is involved with activities or organizations whose primary objective is to protect those natural resources involved with fly fishing. This includes the following:
1) Water conservation and water flow protection of rivers from explotation
2) Protecting various species of fish, such as trout and steelhead, from destruction
3) Protecting fisheries habitat from destruction
4) Advocating for the protection of fisheries involved in fly fishing
The Flycasters Conservation Committee achieves its goals primarily through donating funds to
“front line” organizations such as Cal Trout, CHEER, Trout Unlimited, Tuolumne River Trust, and
other organizations with strong California activities.
The focus for the Flycasters is on waters primarily in Northern California. Funds have used to protect, study, clean up, or enhance the habitat of rivers such as the Truckee River, Tuolumne River, South Bay Creeks, Pescadero Creek and other waterways in northern California.
